It’s that season again. . . cold season

Rachel has had headaches and sinus congestion for over a week. On Friday, I started having cold symptoms. Saturday was full of sneezing, tissue, and that trickle down your nostril feeling that makes you shake like a wet dog–and oh was I a wet dog while doing errands. I took Mucinex and six or seven Sudafed tablets with an hour of each other. Not much effect. On Saturday night, I remembered that in high school I used to take NyQuil instead of Sudafed. My symptoms went down that night, thankfully. Now, I’m just congested all the time.

Late nights at the office

I’m editing HDV again. The company that had originally ordered the HD video back in January ordered an update to the DVD. I have yet to spend the night at the office, again, thankfully. So far the latest I have stayed is 10pm. Things are going more smoothly than the first time I edited high-definition.

I am also working on selling Rachel’s old car, a blue 1992 LeBaro, right now–well, actually I’m not. I am receiving phone calls about the car, but I have not returned any of the calls for two days. I plan on returning the calls tonight if I leave the office at a decent hour.

I ate the best steak that I think I’ve ever eaten two nights ago. It went well with a glass of “Gnarly Dudes” shiraz. The shiraz’s full taste of purple fruits complemented the steak well.

Fourth of July six-day weekend

Rachel and I went on a canoe trip on the Wisconsin River and traveled to Chicago to the art museum. The canoe trip was about 8 miles and was a day long trip.

After walking around the Art Institute of Chicago for four hours, we sampled some of the “Taste of Chicago” vendors just south of the museum in Grant Park.

Highlights of our extended weekend:

Hearing “I wonder how some of this stuff got in here” at the Art Institute of Chicago
Watching other people suddenly take an interest in lesser known paintings because I had just photographed it.
Walking back to Union Station with only 10 minutes to spare
Eating goat for the first time (it’s a lot like lamb)

Concentrating on painting

I am at the threshold of a new season of the year. Two more half days of teaching and then nine weeks of time to concentrate on the visualization of my passion. There is a lot of pressure when there is so little time. Pressure to focus scares me and stunts the growth of my creativity at times. Last year, I put in a lot of hours and saw very few results. However, this spring I have found the time to paint and so I feel ready to use the many hours available during the summer.

Tonight, I finished posting the rest of Rachel’s photographs of our honeymoon in Ireland. Yeah, so I’m not as frequent of a blog poster as I used to be. The reason is the HDV tapes that were sitting my desk (well, counter actually) when I returned to work two Wednesdays ago. HDV (High-Definition Video) is very intensive on my Dual G5. This Apple doesn’t feel as tricked out as it used to as I watch the aqua blue percentage bar pulse across the middle of my screen here at 9:58pm.

Yes, I’m at work tonight, five hours after I am supposed to be.

Rachel drove down tonight and ate dinner with me in my office. We both had leftovers. . . .

Post from a married man

It’s all over. . .er. . . I mean it’s just begun– anyway, we are back from our honeymoon in Ireland. It was cold, windy, and wet, but we loved it–well, all but being stranded by our rental car’s transmission going out. Other than that a little more sunshine, I’m not sure how much better it could have gone.

Rachel and I would like to thank all the very generous efforts of our family and friends that made the wedding and the honeymoon possible.
