An appropriate credit card for a new home, new appliances
I have been looking into appliances for our new (to us) house. That’s close to $2500. The first thing to do is to watch for Sears, Home-Depot, and Lowes deal alerts such as DealNews or FatWallet or subscribe to their respective email newsletter. Look for 10-15% off. These deals happen almost every month.
The second aspect to look into is a credit card that provides at least 3% back. Home Depot has a card, but with very limited rebate options. With Lowes and Sears, I have yet to find a cash back option. I found the Chase Home Improvement credit card. Chase has provided the best credit card rebates for the past three years for me. The Chase Home Improvement card offers 3% back at Home Improvement stores. This covers Lowes and Home Depot, but does not cover Sears. It’s a department store, so I’d recommend the Chase Freedom Card which gives 3% back on any three of 15 categories which includes department stores (remember, there’s a $600 monthly cap on the 3%).
Also, If you have a 5% back credit card at grocery stores or pharmacies, another possibility is to buy gift cards at those venues for the hardware and department stores you are going to eventually buy goods at.
