How do you find content and thus people without categorization–without keywords–without labels?
Back in May, I posted on blogging organization and design. Since then, I have set up Cultured Media and the poetry knook although the visual design of both and of Rachel and Stephen has not begun. Adding Cultured Media has made the focus more narrow, eventually Cultured Media will contain book and music reviews.
But where is the community? What niche am I aiming for?
The popular blogs either have cornerstone content that anyone starting out in blogging should know and isn’t anything new if you’ve been around for the last year OR they have a daily/semi-daily post–neither of which I would like to do. I’m passionate about what I am doing–that’s the only that keeps me going, but I need that community–I need those friends. . .
and I’m sure where to get them.
Labels?
I’ve spent the last five years of my life avoiding labels. After feeling pigeon-holed throughout high school, most of college was about avoiding labels. Sitting at five cafeteria tables a night was the norm for me in college. The urge to speak to those I did not previously know resulted in my marriage to my wife, Rachel. The Internet is a little bigger than my small 1300 student college in rural Kentucky. Where do you even start?
How do we in a fragmented society find people without labels. I’m currently reading Amartya Sen’s Identity and Violence: The Illusion of Destiny which discusses our group identities and says that we need to fight terrorism with a group identity that will outweigh the identity of the terrorist group. He is basically promoting pluralism. (On a side note, he cites Andalusia in the book. I happened to pick up a CD titled From Byzantium to Andalusia from the library last night which has Christian, Jewish, and Islamic songs–the only 13th century annotated Jewish song)
I’ve searched blog catalogs/directories, Facebook, and Google via keywords for hours to no avail. How do you find content and thus people without categorization–without keywords–without labels?
