New car and a pleasant visit to the BMV
Are you probably already read on Facebook, I brought a 2000 Honda Civic on Tuesday. I brought the Civic for close to the average price in area minus the cost of half an exhaust system and new brakes–which the seller and I both agreed would the car would need in the coming months. It’s dark green and the color clashes with the dark green with blue undertones Camry that I used to drive–but I do not care. Now I’ve got to sell the 1992 Chrysler LeBaron.
A few day ago, I went to the BMV (Bureau of Motor Vehicles) and it was a fairly pleasant experience. I walked in the door and was immediately helped at the counter. I forgot to bring some items with me, and the clerk let me slide without them. I had forgotten that I would pay a 6% state sales tax when I was negotiating with the seller.
I was informed that it was illegal to keep the license plate of the former owner on the car, but the BMV employee told me that she had gone for two weeks with someone else’s plate on your care before and “as long as I careful” it would be alright. I paid for a new plate, and I might see if I can get a refund on registration of the car we are not driving, but it won’t amount to much, so I may not go through the hassle.
