<p>3 : an enthusiast or expert especially in a technological field or activity (i.e.- computer geek). Its etymology is from the term for a carnival performer often billed as a wild man whose act usually includes biting the head off a live chicken or snake.</p>
<p>The definition of a nerd according to Merriam-Webster:</p>
<p>1 : an unstylish, unattractive, or socially inept person; especially : one slavishly devoted to intellectual or academic pursuits (i.e.- computer nerds). Its etymology is from the term for a creature in the children&#8217;s book If I Ran the Zoo (1950) by Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel).</p>
