Whadya say? Our wedding vows
After our ceremony, someone asked me for a clarification of one part of our wedding covenants, so I thought I would post my vow for you to read (or use if you are in that season of life).
Stephen’s Vow
In the presence of God, our family and friends, I, Stephen, take you, Rachel, to be my wife and the mother of my children. I offer you my solemn vow and offer you my troth, my fidelity, to be your partner from this day forward, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, in times of failure, in times of triumph, in joy as well as in sorrow.
Regardless of the obstacles we may face together, I promise to love you unconditionally, to encourage you in your goals, to laugh with you, to cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live, according to God’s holy ordinance. I eagerly anticipate the chance to grow together, getting to know the woman you will become.
I assert my identification with you symbolically and literally and pledge my faith to you, entering a new season of our life together on this holy day of Epiphany that celebrates the ’shining forth’ of God to mankind in human form, in the person of Jesus. And I will strive to ’shine forth,’ and am willing to lay down my life, specifically in my action and in my death, for you as Christ did for his Church.
Rachel’s Vow
In the presence of God, our family and friends, I, Rachel, take you, Stephen, to be my husband and the father of my children. I offer you my solemn vow and offer you my troth, my fidelity to be your partner from this day forward, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, in times of failure, in times of triumph, in joy as well as in sorrow.
Regardless of the obstacles we may face together, I promise to love you unconditionally, to pray for you and with you, as Christ is the central part of our relationship. On his strength will I lean as I laugh with you, cry with you, and treasure you for as long as we both shall live. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to grow together, getting to know the man you will become.
I assert my identification with you symbolically and literally and pledge my faith to you, entering a new season of our life together on this holy day of Epiphany. As Ruth said to Naomi, “Where you will go, I will go.?” I say to you. “Wherever you will go or stay, there I will go or stay.” And I will strive to help you and support you both emotionally and spiritually throughout our life.

Rachel and I thought the community should be in our wedding more than usually, so we asked those who attended our wedding to take at a “Communal Pledge.”
Our Communal Pledge
Now I turn to the community, the family and friends, of Rachel and Stephen that have gathered here to support them in their day of matrimony and ask them to stand.
As witness of their vows, I ask that you will encourage them in their relationship with their Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, be in “one in heart and mind?” with their community, encourage them have a servant’s heart for those around them and speak “with great boldness,” and provide accountability in their faith to each other. (Acts 4:23-37)
